Araçari Diet
Araçaris and Toucans in general must have a diet low in iron and citric acid. That along with the increased use of dangerous pesticides sometimes makes it a little confusing and difficult when you are picking out food for your feathered friend. As a responsible pet owner, you want him/her to live a long healthy life. Here is a picture of one day's combination of fruit, veggies, and pellets that we might feed our birds: To make things easier, we created the following guide of safe and unsafe foods and supplements with tremendous help from Jason Crean of Beaks Bird House, Fran Andersen, and Damian Shaheen. Pictures were added for ease in identifying when at the grocery store with a printout. Click this link to view the food guide:
We are always looking to improve on the list so that we can provide our birds with more variety and nutrients. If you have information on any other food and how you know they are safe/unsafe, please contact us so we can keep the list updated.
